Family Guy’s willingness to go to much more offensive and challenging places than The Simpsons, exploring dicier themes and pushing the boundaries of network television, has resulted in these unremittingly dark and controversial installments. However, the series eventually manifested a unique personality, brand, and sense of humor, and Family Guy went on to carve a singular niche as the much darker cousin to The Simpsons. The darkest Family Guy episodes are just the most egregious examples of the show's over-the-top satire and cutting humor - although many go above and beyond the regular line-crossing Family Guy is known for.įamily Guy has often been criticized as a pale imitation of The Simpsons, and the show’s emphasis on the everyday suburban family made the comparison undeniably apt. There are almost uncountable moments in Family Guy meant entirely to offend, and some are definitely more palatable than others. Making light of everything from the assassinations of prominent political figures to all-too-soon topical jokes, there's almost nothing from which the showrunners will shy away. Though often uncomfortable and controversial, much of Family Guy's identity is tied to its proclivity for potentially-distasteful humor. ![]() 'PTV' (season 8)īest line: FCC officer: "His chin looks like balls. When Seth MacFarlane’s Family Guy first hit Fox’s airwaves the surprisingly dark jokes came as a shock, and the darkest episodes of Family Guy are still highly controversial years - even decades - later. Even now, you never know when it might strike again. Peter convinces him to reveal himself to the world, taking down President George W Bush in the process.īut the main reason the episode is so great is the aforementioned 'Surfin' Bird' running gag, in which Peter annoys the hell out of everyone by continuously finding ways to shoehorn in the catchy 1950s Trashmen tune. 'I Dream of Jesus' (season 7)īest line: "Sir, our maths shows that the bird is equal to, or greater than the word."ĪKA the 'Bird is the Word' episode. Quagmire proceeds to beat the crap out of him, only for Brian to utter: "Hey. Sort of.īrian has a one-night stand with Ida, and when he discovers who she really is, he barfs all over the place just like in the amazing ipecac incident in season 4. And for Family Guy standards, it was surprisingly kind to the transgender community. The best of which, was when Brian accidentally shagged his dad.Īs Dan Quagmire arrived on the scene, his creepy son was shocked to find that he'd transitioned, becoming Ida. 'McStroke' (season 6)īest line: Peter: "Then I guess we'll take our millions of dongs elsewhere."Īs Brian went from sensible Joe to womanizing jerk, it also meant that we got to enjoy plenty of Brian vs Quagmire battles. There are so many moments which are Christmas comedy gold, from the epic 'Christmastime is Killing Us' song to the Aurora Boreanaz cameo. And a family's Christmas being utterly ruined. The pair help Mr Claus by attempting to deliver gifts around the world, but this of course just leads to disaster. 'Road to the North Pole' (season 9)īest line: Stewie: "He was gonna call the cops, man, you can't call the cops on Santa."Īnother Stewie and Brian journey saw them travel to the North Pole in order to kill Santa Claus, but all they discovered was a wrecked and polluted factory full of diseased elves and feral reindeer. One of the rare emotionally-charged moments in the show. (I count the three Stewie episodes as one though, allowing for more room on my list.) Season 7. ![]() Brian visited the puppy house where he was born, stealing his late mother's taxidermied body in the process. Good, Bango Was His Name-O, and Stu & Stewie's Excellent Adventure are in my top ten favorites of the whole series. Not only was it hilarious, but it didn't shy away from being ultra emotional either. ![]() And so begins an amazing road trip as they attempt to go back to Quahog before Lois finds out. In this one, Brian picks Stewie up from his grandparents' house but they soon get lost after their plane tickets are stolen. The first of several of the epic Brian and Stewie "Road to." episodes, and we can never get enough of the bromantic pair.
